RE: TC Insurance.

I'm not sure about Florida insurance regs, but up here we have a "rider" on our home insurance for our TC. It's a replacement cost "rider" and covers all perils such as flood, fire, earthquake, etc. when the unit is in storage. When it's on the truck, it's covered by our vehicle insurance......might be worth looking into down there.
I am also in BC.
As far as I know my camper is not included in my truck insurance through ICBC, the government insurance corporation.
I have been buying "camper RV insurance" through my ICBC agent from a private insurance company. I pay around 250 dollars and that would replace my camper for a new one in case of total destruction. I 'm not be able to get this after the camper gets to a certain age.

Which manufacturers closed shop recently?

Did anyone keep track of which manufacturers closed shop this summer?
I know the one in Penticton BC closed, but are there any other ones?
It could be a problem for warranty work if you buy one of their products still in the lots.

RE: Picking up a new 2009 Jayco Seneca HD 34SS in Des Moines, IA

Well, have a great trip. I will be watching this thread.
We have been planning to buy a motorhome since march of this year but we have not been succesfull finding what we want.
My wife wants a Tripl E Regency. Can't find any in the dealers lots.
We might have to start looking at used ones with low mileage.

RE: BigFoot looses prime on water pump

I only drain the tank completely in the fall when winterizing the camper.
I don't think it makes much difference "to travel as light as possible" with an empty tank anyways.
What do you gain by doing that? At your next camping spot you might not find good water to fill your tank. I always travel with a full tank of good water.
I never have to go through any of the hassle you are going through when filling an empty tank. My pump works every time right away when I fill the tank in spring. I might have a different set up, my camper is a Northern Light.
I'm just wondering if all Big Foots have your problem?
That's the nice thing about this forum....finding out little things that irritate when owning certain brands.

RE: Out side shower

I think that the shower head should not leak when the water is turned on. As far as my way of thinking goes when you shut off a faucet it should not leak. I know that it is not like a faucet but still it should shut off. I just can not believe that everyone thinks this is normal. I have had 3 motor homes before this truck camper and not one of those leaked, inside or outside. I believe that it is just plain poor workmanship. This is just my opinion. Bill
I agree!
That's it.
End of story. :-)

My shower head does not leak.
I think they shouldn't.
The pump going on once and awhile because of a shower leak is not normal.
It should be fixed.

RE: Black Tank Level Sensor Help

I had a warning light come on in my truck and I put a black piece of tape over it.
That was 2 years and 40.000 miles ago. I'm still driving the truck, it's doing just fine.

RE: Having T/C level when plugged in to house.

If you don't keep it level, all of the electrons will flow out the outside fridge vent and you'll have this huge mess of electrons to clean up on the driveway. ;)
Not only that but the cabilation sthemer rotated areas will require lubrication, but usually it's to late and the thing will be toast.:S

RE: Pacifc NW Labor Day TC Rally at Fintry again + caravan

diesel today is $1.06 a liter. Just about $4 a gallon. Gas is a bit cheaper. I live just outside Greater Vancouver where there is a 5 cent surcharge for transit.
My, my, how things have changed since Jan 12th. :(
Just in case you folks are wondering about diesel prices in the Williams Lake area: The last time I filled my tank it cost $ 1,50/ liter. (actually 1.499)
I suspect that when you buy diesel at the LAST pump before you go down the hill the price will be well over $ 2,00/ liter.
Last year on our trip to Bella Coola ( april 2007) I paid $ 1.40 at the last pump in Anahim Lake, and that was BEFORE the major price increases.

RE: manufacturers...who's going strong???

From the Penticton Herald Newspaper:
Penticton RV plant faces shutdown
JOHN MOORHOUSE
07/18/200
The hammer of a slumping economy has just hit another Penticton manufacturing firm.
West Coast Leisure Homes will be closing production Sept. 12 affecting some 40 workers. A small administrative staff will remain. The company produces Okanagan RVs and campers at a 60,000 square foot plant on Dawson Avenue.
Company president Chris Epp said Thursday although production operations will be shut down, the company remains in business.
“This is not a bankruptcy. This is a plant closing,” he said. “It‘s a big difference. The suppliers aren‘t going to be left high and dry.”
The remaining staff will be able to look after warranty issues and retailers will be serviced, he said.
Epp said West Coast Leisure has been gradually reducing its workforce over the past eight months from a peak of about 150 people on staff a year ago.
Although the plant is closing, Epp said the door remains open to a possible reopening when the economy turns around.
“We‘re going to shut the doors here and discontinue production for the time being until such time as market conditions improve – or otherwise – we‘ll see how things go,” he said.
Epp noted the entire North American RV industry is going through a downturn, with several other manufacturers in Canada and the U.S. closing down.
Although B.C. and Alberta are the company‘s main markets, Canadian sales have gone flat in tandem with the slumping U.S. economy. The strong Canadian dollar has also had a significant impact -- about 20 per cent of West Coast‘s sales are to the U.S.
“In the past year we‘ve seen our dollar go from 85 cents to parity. That‘s when it seemed like someone was turning off the faucet,” he said. “With an 85 cent dollar we were still fully busy. We were booking six months out, but once the dollar got to parity our business dried up.”
The Okanagan brand in the RV industry was started in the late 1960s and went through at least two ownership changes before West Coast Leisure bought the production rights in 1991 when it was operating at Travel-Mate Industries.
“I personally have been involved in this company for 24 years and a number of the employees date back beyond that. It‘s been around for a long-time,” he said. “It‘s been a hard personal decision as well as a hard business decision.”
West Coast Leisure joins a growing list of Penticton area manufacturing firms which have closed or announced closures in recent months.
Canwood Furniture saw its last day of full production last Friday, while Hyak Specialty Wood Products will shut down its construction stake plant at the end of July. Last fall, Weyerhaeuser Canada closed its Okanagan Falls mill, followed by TSW Laminating and Oldcastle Glass.

RE: Okanagan Truck Campers to Cease Production

That's bad news.
Specially for the City of Penticton.
There are more manufacturers in the north and south Okanagon, hopefully we don't hear more bad news. :-(

RE: manufacturers...who's going strong???

As usual your information isnt accurate I just left the Bigfoot factory several days ago they are on a reduced work week and and developing several new products .
Big Foot is working on a new model motorhome.
Their smaller motorhomes models have not much space behind the steering wheel.
They are working on changing the "basement layout" in order to make it possible to move the drivers seat more to the back. I have seen some paperwork on it. It looks good.
Some dealers have seen a proto type.
I'm not sure what the other new products would be.
Are you talking Big Foot truck campers?

Big Foot and Northern Lite are still in business here in British Columbia.
I wondering when Northern Lite is coming out with a "slide-out" camper?
I might want to buy a slide out camper, right now I own a Northern Lite.
But I might have to buy another brand because they seem to be the only one not producing slide out units. (Correct me if I'm wrong).

RE: Flipped my fridge and still not working

I was told by an RV maintenance shop never to start up the fridge when the RV is NOT parked level.
My truck was parked once uphill a steep driveway and the wife started the fridge.
The fridge got messed up real good. Needed to buy a new one. Was 7 years old.
Oh, and btw, these suckers are expensive and could be hassle to install them as well.
We needed to take the camper door (with the frame) right out in order to get the old fridge out and the new one in.

RE: Results for Canadian 2007 RV sales...drumroll:

Booming you say, but that was 2007.
I think they can't give away motorhomes right now.
I have seen prices drop by the week.
It's a buyers market for sure.
You are right, go ahead keep the economy floating, buy one at a reduced price and have some fun.
